Join Adirondack Wild as we celebrate the 60th anniversary of the National Wilderness Preservation Act of 1964, and the source of its inspiration – right here in the Adirondacks.
Adirondack Wild’s 14th Annual Membership Meeting begins at 11 AM on Friday, October 11, 2024 at the Tannery Pond Community Center in North Creek, just a few miles from where Howard Zahniser began to draft the National Wilderness Act at his family’s camp. He was inspired by our founder Paul Schaefer and New York’s Forest Preserve, protected by Article XIV, “Forever Wild.”
This year we will invite friends and guests to think about what the National Wilderness Act and our Forever Wild Forest Preserve means to you personally.
Come and join the discussion, and help us to celebrate our 2024 award recipients:
- Champion of the Forest Preserve Award – to Helen Chase, former Chair of the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation’s Forest Preserve Advisory Committee, and a Board Director of both the Catskill Center and Adirondack Wild.
- Wild Stewardship Award – to Sara Frankenfeld, Warren County Department of Planning and Community Development, First Wilderness Heritage Corridor and First Wilderness Story Collaboration.
- Paul Schaefer Wilderness Award – to Neil Woodworth, former Executive Director, Adirondack Mountain Club.
Our meeting is FREE, open to the public – and to you and to your friends and family as well.
Please bring your own brown bag lunch; we will be providing refreshments.
REGISTRATION: Please R.S.V.P. by or before Wed. October 9, 2024
