Thirty Percent by 2030
New York State 30 x 30
Conserving 30 Percent of Lands and Waters by 2030
Draft Strategies and Methodology (July 2024)
Kathy Hochul, Governor | Sean Mahar, Interim Commissioner | Randy Simons, Commissioner Pro Tempur
State Legislation was passed in 2022 making New York a key player in a broad, national goal of conserving 30 percent of land and shorelines in the United States. New York established our state’s own 30 percent conservation goal to be reached by the year 2030.
As promised, a draft set of Strategies and Methods for the “30 x 30” program was released for public comment by the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation and NYS Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation on July 1. The public comment deadline is August 30, 2024.
Adirondack Wild has devoted time this month reviewing and commenting on the Draft strategies to achieve the goal. Our comments are here: Adk Wild comments
To read the 30 x 30 Strategies, see New York State 30×30 Draft Strategies and Methodology (PDF). We all have until August 30, 2024 to comment. You can submit written comments by emailing 30×30@dec.ny.gov, or by mailing comments to: Jeff Mapes. NYS DEC, 625 Broadway, 5th Floor Albany, NY 12233-4254.
